Off-Page Signals: How AI Finds You Beyond Your Website
Where AI engines look besides your website, Reddit, podcasts, reviews, and directories, and which of those signals actually move recommendations.
Does being active on Reddit help me get recommended by AI?
Yes, but not the way most owners try it. Being genuinely discussed on Reddit feeds the engines; promoting yourself there mostly backfires. Here is how the signal actually works.
I was invited on a podcast. Will it help me get found by AI?
Yes, if the appearance leaves a text trail: an episode page, show notes, and a transcript tying your name to your specialty on a domain you don't control. The audio alone is invisible to engines.
Do online reviews and directories affect whether AI recommends me?
Yes, as verification fuel. Reviews supply third-party evidence in real customers' words, and directories confirm your identity is consistent. Neither wins alone; both feed the checks engines run before naming you.
Why a Big Social Following Doesn't Make AI Recommend You
Followers live behind platform walls engines barely read, feed content is structurally unciteable, and audience size is a popularity signal in a system built to verify. The trail a following leaves can count; the count itself does not.
